Tyson Hall was raised in the Bronx amidst the hip-hop culture evolution that took place in the late 70′s, early 80′s. He chose graffiti as his art form because he could always find a medium to express himself. At John Jay College while enrolled in an art class he was inspired by the film on the life and art of Jean-Michel Basquiat; Tyson purchased his first piece of canvas and began to paint. At this time he gave unity to his graffiti and drawing. Painting became a vehicle for the communication and expression of Tyson’s spirituality, culture and values. His art conveys cutting edge themes, addresses social forces and their influence on the community.

Tyson has donated paintings for auction to New York City museums and charities such as The Jackie Robinson Foundation, RUSH Philanthropy, Abyssinia Baptist Church, and The MOCADA Museum. He has also used his artwork as a community service vehicle. Hall’s passion is speaking to and inspiring children through exposing them to art. Corporate America has enthusiastically embraced his artwork as well. In 2007, he was commissioned to design a window installation for Stolichnaya, Russia’s first flavored vodka, as well as a display case for the nation’s fourth best selling soft drink, Mountain Dew. Exhibit goers have proclaimed his work passionate and revolutionary. The goal of the artist is to express and convey a message to the viewer. The importance of appreciating the beauty within individuality is the message that Tyson Hall sends.

Robert Ross was born in North Carolina during the turbulent era of the 1960s. His inspiration was formed there amid the pressures and great promise of that era. This inspiration was manifested in both paintings and music, and although neither was shared with the public, his need to express his art was constant.

It was when he moved to Harlem that he was able to become involved in a creative world that was unavailable to him in North Carolina. A multi-faceted artist, his work is both light and “hard-hearted,” funny and serious, innocent and dark.

His art is available for sale at Corner Social. For inquiries you can contact him at 212-281-5243 OR 917-215-5422. www.redrossgallery.com

As a native New Yorker, I was drawn to Harlem’s diverse people and culture in the early 1980’s. Having previously worked outside the arts, I am pursuing my longstanding creative photographic passion. I photograph images of Harlem’s historical and cultural past that are often unnoticed in today’s fast-paced lifestyle. My images show that despite change, vestiges of Harlem’s history still exist. Compelled to capture Harlem’s essence, I am recording Harlem at the turning point of its revival, as it exists today. My images are a work-in-progress from my Portrait of Harlem and Harlem Stroll collection of black and white silver gelatin (hand printed in the darkroom) and digital archival prints. This collection will preserve and present the image history of Harlem at this particular juncture of its on-going transition, what some call the “second renaissance.” These images capture Harlem’s essence, where elements of its past, present and future coexist at this time and evoke a sense of history and permanence yet record the changing nature of the village of Harlem.

Ms. Browne’s photographs are for sale and may be purchased by contacting her at 646-256-8971 or lenore@coimage.net. You may also view her website.

Paul Deo began painting at age 5, under the tutelage of his Aunt Auressa Moore. Auressa taught Deo artistic techniques, as well as the spiritual world of internal inspiration. After winning a city-wide high school Art competition, at just 6 years old, Deo received critical acclaim ahead of his time. Unwilling to play the role of child prodigy, Deo stopped creating shortly after Auressa passed away, 2 years later.

Challenges defined Deo’s life as he grew up, moving between New York City and New Orleans, the City of Imagination. There, his first son was born, insighting Deo to support his family by creating again.
